Sibai Huang
Restorer
The son of two violinists, Huang was born and raised in Shanghai, China. Huang was surrounded by stringed instruments throughout his youth, his father being a member of the first generation in China to study and play classical guitar, in addition to playing the violin. His father has also been a violin restorer for over 40 years owning a workshop in Shanghai, where Huang began apprenticing while in high school. Huang attended the Chicago School of Violin Making from 2011-2014, during which time he trained at Rare Violins of New York while on school breaks. After returning to Shanghai in 2015 to continue his journey as a violin maker and restorer, Huang had the pleasure of accepting the opportunity to return to New York as a permanent restorer at Rare Violins in November 2019.
